We were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the Town of Cary Planning Department on this project.
This Town of Cary VIP system is a Web-based help system for land developers and others to find out the steps needed to comply with the Town's complex ordinances and zoning restrictions. The goal was to provide a system that accomplishes this in both a straight up Web application and also a more fun animated process. Our team worked closely with Dan Matthys, Meredith Chandler and other Town staff to create an online experience that provides information for any type of land development need. Because of the the unique nature of this project and its success, the Town of Cary's VIP System has already won two NC awards: the 2010 Marvin Collins Outstanding Planning Award for Project Implementation and a 2010 Award for Excellence in Communication. The project was featured in a workshop at the 2010 NC Planning conference and is scheduled for a national planners workshop in Florida in 2011.
Creating the Town of Cary's VIP website presented a unique set of challenges. Creating the artwork and animations, learning Cary's development process, integrating different technologies, planning for future changes, and organizing many different workflows were all factors that brought out all the different skills of our team members. We pulled all the pieces together and combined .Net programming with Flash programming while also integrating standard Web technologies, artwork, animation, and video for the final product. We all enjoyed this challenge and enjoyed working with the Town.
